A man from Hasaka city, named as Naser Muhammad al Akleh, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces in September 2020 during a raid on his home in al Salehiya neighborhood in the city and taken to its detention center in Hasaka governorate. On February 18, 2021, SDF personnel handed his body over to his family bearing signs of torture.
SNHR notes that about 3,398 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing.
We also note that 57 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in SDF detention centers.
