On February 4, 2021, local families recovered the bodies of Muhammad Ahmad al Abdullah al Theyban, Abdullah Ahmad al Abdullah al Theyban and Muhammad Nour al Hajji al Dakhil, aged 34, 33 and 29 respectively, from the Euphrates lake. The three civilians had been shot dead while they were fishing by a Syrian regime sniper stationed in al Sayyed village near the lake. SNHR notes that the lake is located near Jabal Aarouda in al Mestaha area to the south of Manbej city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, which is controlled by Syrian Democratic Forces.

SNHR notes that the Syrian regime has committed a violation of international humanitarian law through this indiscriminate killing, for which the perpetrators must be held accountable.
