An IED of unknown origin, which had been placed under a pickup truck whose driver had gone out to buy bread, exploded on January 17, 2021, while the vehicle was in the main vegetable market in the center of Sejjo town in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, resulting in the death of the driver, Muhammad al Awad, and the injury of five other civilians. The explosion also damaged a number of shops in the market. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians in a brutal and indiscriminate manner, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable
