A man named as Muhammad Fayez al Sheikh, the official for the relief campaigns section of Molham Volunteering Team, from Kafranbel city in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was arrested by Hay’at Tahrir al Sham personnel on October 20, 2020, when he visited HTS’ office of ‘spoils’ (items looted from HTS’ opponents) in Idlib city, and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no member of Muhammad’s family was informed of his arrest, and he was prevented from contacting his family. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of all those detained in Syria.
SNHR notes that approximately 2,116 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in HTS’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
