Fadil Jadallah Mesleh, the mayor of Aib village which is administratively a part of al Laja area in the eastern suburbs of Daraa governorate, was shot dead, along with his son Mu’taz and his eight-year- old daughter Ghufran, by unknown gunmen when they opened fire against the car the family was in front of their home in the village on August 13, 2020. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.

SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians in a brutal and indiscriminate manner, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
