A man from A’aiwa village which is administratively a part of Tal Abyad city in the northern suburbs of Raqqa governorate, named as Majed Ismail al Khafaji, was arrested by Syrian National Army personnel on July 31 while he was passing through a checkpoint on the Raqqa- Aleppo road in the city and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no member of Majed’s family was informed of his arrest, with his phones being confiscated, preventing him from contacting his family. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of the detained persons.
SNHR notes that about 3,244 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the detention centres run by the factions of the armed opposition, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
