A man from Ayyash village in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, named as Khalil Muhammad al Yasin, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces personnel in December 2019 in Hawayij Thiab Jazira village in the western suburbs of the governorate in his way back from Turkey. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the SDF denying his arrest and preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him or revealing his whereabouts. On July 31, 2020, his body was handed over to his family bearing signs of torture sustained inside al Kesra Prison of SDF in al Kesra city in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate.
SNHR notes that about 3,337 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing.
