Four civilians from the same family (three children and a woman) were killed and seven others injured on July 24, 2020 by an explosion whose cause has yet to be determined at a nearby arsenal used to store and manufacture weapons and munitions by factions of the Syrian National Army in Shamarin village in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, with the blast also causing damage to a number of homes.

SNHR condemns any military presence inside residential areas and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, to transfer any presence of military personnel and equipment away from these areas and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
