A veterinarian from al Sh-heil city in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate named as Faisal al Shawwah was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces on June 29, 2020, during a raid on his home in al Sh-hheil city backed by US-led coalition warplanes and taken to an undisclosed location.

SNHR notes that no member of his family was informed of his arrest, with phone being confiscated, preventing him from contacting any family member. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of the detained persons.

SNHR can confirm that at least 3,090 Syrian citizens are also still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDFs’ detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
