A man from al Hrak city in the eastern suburbs of Daraa governorate named as Qutaibah Anwar al Salamat was arrested by Syrian regime forces in Damascus city on June 18, 2020, and taken to an undisclosed location. SNHR notes that that Qutaibah was amongst those who had previously agreed on a settlement of his status.

We note that the arrest was conducted without any legal arrest warrant issued by a court and that no member of his family was informed of his arrest, with phone being confiscated, preventing him from contacting any family member or a lawyer. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of the detained persons.

SNHR can confirm that at least 130,000 Syrian citizens are also still detained in the regime’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
