A boy from al Sh-heil city in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, named as Saed Hamdan al Ghafel, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces on June 16, 2020, during a raid on al Khayasa neighborhood in the city, which was supported by a US- led coalition aircraft, and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that no members of the boy’s family were informed of his arrest, and he was prevented from contacting them. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of the detained people.
SNHR notes that approximately 3,090 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
