A 21- year- old woman from Homs city, named as Rahaf Hasan al Shaleh, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces personnel on June 15, 2020, as she was passing through a checkpoint in Ein Eisa city in the northern suburbs of Raqqa governorate while travelling to Tal Abyad city in the governorate, and taken to an undisclosed location.

We note that no member of her family was informed of her arrest, with her phone being confiscated, preventing her from contacting any family members. SNHR fears that she will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of detained persons.

SNHR can confirm that at least 3,090 Syrian citizens are still detained in the SDF’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
