Raed Abdi al Khatib is an activist in popular uprising from al Suwayda city was arrested by Syrian regime forces on June 9, 2020, during a raid on an office in Engy tower in al Suwayda city due to his participation in an anti- Syrian regime protest and taken to an undisclosed location.

The arrest was conducted without any legal arrest warrant being issued by a court, and no member of the detainees’ family was informed of his arrest, with the phone being confiscated, preventing him from contacting his family or lawyer. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of those detained by the regime.

SNHR notes that about 130,000 Syrian citizens are still detained in the Syrian regime’s detention centers, constituting a grave threat to their wellbeing given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
