An image shared online on May 20, 2020, shows the aftermath of massive fires that destroyed an area of agricultural land in al Takakena area in south of Mu’adamiyet al Sham town in Damascus suburbs governorate, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces. Local activists told SNHR that five fires whose origin is unknown broke out in the area between May 20, 2020, and June 8, 2020, which resulted in the burning of hundreds of hectares of farmland. SNHR has been unable to identify the cause of these fires up to the time of writing. Although the controlling forces in the area, in this case the Syrian regime, bear responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity in the case of any crimes, the regime has not launched any investigation into the blazes, which resulted in severe damage to land and properties.
