The child Mu’ath Hussein al Abdullah, who was displaced from Kheyara village in the eastern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was shot dead on May 28, 2020, while he was in his family’s tent in a random camp for IDPs in Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate. The boy who died of a gunshot wound to the head, was killed by a stray bullet fired during fighting between members of al Hamzah Brigade which is affiliated with the Syrian National Army and some gunmen in the city.

SNHR has been unable to identify the party responsible for the child’s death up to the time of writing. Although the controlling forces bear responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, the Syrian National Army has not launched any investigation which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the boy’s death.
