A 17-year-old girl identified as Fidaa Abdul Jalil, a high school science studies student from Ein al-Bat (administratively a part of Ein al-Arab city) in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was abducted for military conscription on April 5, 2023 by the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) al-Shabiba al-Thawriya, (Revolutionary Youth) faction, also known as the ‘Joanne Schurchkar’, from a Kurdish language tuition center in Ein al-Arab city. The girl was taken to an SDF recruitment center in Aleppo governorate.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Fidaa’s family has not been notified of what has happened to her, and she is forbidden to contact or visit them. We have concerns that she will be forced to participate in direct and indirect military action.
It should be noted that approximately 231 children are currently conscripted in SDF military training camps.
**” In a news report published by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) on April 27, 2023, we stated that a girl named Fidaa Abdul Jalil, who was abducted for military conscription by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel on April 5, 2023, from a Kurdish language tuition center in Ein al-Arab city, had subsequently been taken to an SDF detention center in Aleppo governorate. On further investigation of the information which we received from activists in the area, we discovered that following her abduction, Fidaa had actually been taken to an SDF detention center in Hasaka governorate.” *
