On January 18, 2024, an improvised explosive device (IED) whose source we have not been able to identify exploded near homes in Shoura village near Sa’sa’ town in western Rural Damascus ‘Rif Dimshaq’ governorate. The IED, which was affixed to a car belonging to Nabil Hamira, the head of the Syrian regime’s Military Police in Khan Arnaba in Quneitra governorate, killed a boy who was nearby at the time, identified as six-year-old Adam Aws Mustafa from al-Harif village in the rural parts of Misyaf area in southwestern rural Hama governorate, and injured two other civilians, one of them also a child. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses and survivors to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR condemns all bombings targeting residential areas. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
