A 18-year-old man, identified as Abd al-Saleh al-Assaf, was shot dead on November 1, 2023, by personnel from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near his home in Buqrus town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate on the bank of the Euphrates River in a regime-controlled part of the governorate. Some SDF personnel stationed on the opposite bank of the river in the SDF-held al-Shahil city who opened fired indiscriminately at the other side, killing Abd.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
